Team Of The Week 10.12.12

Below is the team that I feel have played the best this weekend. They are in a 4-1-2-1-2 formation an wearing Manchester United’s kit as Manchester United are first in the Premier League at the moment. If there is anyone you feel I have left out, comment below.

David de Gea

I dont really know what to expect with de Gea when he is in goal, but he was really good against Manchester City. It may seem a bit odd to award it to a ‘keeper who conceded two goals, but he couldn’t do anything to stop them. He put on a solid display, did well in the air against a strong City side, something I have criticised him for before, and recorded seven saves. My highlight was the two saves he made in quick succession before the first Manchester City goal.

Glen Johnson

Glen Johnson is starting to get a good run of form under his belt, and this weeks performance added to it. West Ham are a tough side to beat away, but Johnson and his team mates managed to win 3-2. Johnson helped this by scoring the goal of the week, which I wouldn’t expect to by scored by a right back. He was a constant threat down the right hand side.

Brede Hangeland

The big man was back to his best for Fulham this week, winning almost every ball for them. The return of Hangeland after his sending off against Sunderland has helped Fulham hugely. When Hangeland has been playing for Fulham this season, Fulham have taken 1.46 points per game compared to 0.33 without him, just showing his importance to the team.

Ryan Shawcross

Shawcross was fantastic in helping Stoke keep a clean sheet. He was a monster at the back winning loads of aerial duels and making some crucial blocks. My personal highlight for Shawcross this weekend, was his goal bound clearance against Benteke, he slid in to stop the shot at the last possible moment.

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw was impressive yet again this week, and is definitely a young player to watch out for, and outshone Leighton Baines this week for me. He helped Southampton keep a clean sheet and he made six tackles and six interceptions, if he keeps up his performance the seventeen year old is surely going to be snapped up by a bigger club.

James McCarthy

James McCarthy had a very good all round performance this week, scoring two goals from midfield. He is very unlucky that his efforts went to waste as Wigan only managed to get a point out of the game. He also defended outstandingly making three interceptions and nine tackles, which were the best defensive figures in the league.

Juan Mata

Mata and Hazard are making a formidable partnership for Chelsea at the moment, and Mata has been one of the best players this season. He makes exquisite passes in every game and has already matched his goal tally from last season (six). If anyone can help Torres get back to goalscoring form it will almost definitely be Mata.

Robert Snodgrass

He had one of the performances of the week. He scored a beautiful free kick to grab the win for Norwich, as well as providing two assists  for Grant Holt and Steven Whittaker, and he could have even sealed the match earlier on in the first half.

Wow! He just keeps on scoring, week in week out, he has now taken his goal tally to 12 goals in 16 games, a record that even a striker would be proud of. He is the top scorer in the league, and for a two million pound player, it is fantastic. He scored two goals this weekend, and dominated in the air and on the ground.

Wayne Rooney

It is never easy to score in a derby, but Wayne scored two. He, along with van Persie, led the attack for Manchester United, and he clinically scored with both of his shots. Manchester City simply couldn’t handle him, and the two goals he scored against them made his goal tally in the Premier League reach 150. Could this be the start of one of Rooney’s famous purple patches?

Fernando Torres

Could he finally be back to his old self? After scoring 4 goals in the Champions League and Premier League this week, he seems to have regained his confidence, shown by him taking the penalty for his second. He almost scored a third by smashing the post with an outrageous shot. For the Premier League’s sake I hope he finds his form again.
